By admin on Tue Jan 05, 2010 9:57 pm - We have decided to buy a new shop Cherokee. What we found was a 1999 jeep Cherokee with only 120,000 miles on it. The only problem is that the previous owner had a blown head gasket, so they took it to a mechanic to get fixed, but never paid for the work. We paid 600 for the Cherokee with the engine compartment looking pretty tore up. The plan is to put it back together with the parts from the previous shop jeep, and strip the ugly tan interior out to replace it with dark gray. We will also improve the suspension with a Rubicon Express long arm.

By admin on Mon Sep 28, 2009 9:19 pm - Tragic news! Our official MAF Cherokee has been totaled! A winter wheeling trip in the mountains around Helena did it in. Ice and snow on the trail caused the Jeep to slip off the road and down a cliff into a creek. It happened at about midnight during the coldest week of the 2008 winter. At the time of the crash it was about -20°F. Our driver landed upside down in the creek and had to swim out the window. Fortunately someone was there to help him out. We managed to get the Jeep out of the creek that night. It was not easy winching.

1969 Toyota FJ40 LandCruser

By admin on Tue Jan 05, 2010 10:23 pm - The cheap truck has had its status upgraded. It has now gone from a coat rack to a table. A triangulated four-link suspension has been added on a trussed 14 bolt axel. We are now waiting for some 47 inch tires to come in. We are saving up for an atlas transfer case to finalize the drive train.

The cheap truck was originally built for the cheap truck challenge in Helena, MT back in 2005. The goal was to build and race a rig that cost less than $700 for the vehicle itself plus upgrades. We used scraps from other Toyota builds to meet the cost goal. Now several years later the cheap truck has been through several revisions and has turned into an FJ-45. The funds for the cheap truck come from buying and selling used cars and various other parts. Needless to say progress is slow…

By admin on Wed Dec 08, 2010 7:43 pm – The Cheap truck has seen some progress, though the pictures don’t show too much. We now have the front axle located and the leaf springs mounted up. The front axle is a Dana 60 that has been shortened on one side and lengthened on the other. The Caster will be set to 8 degrees and we will be running PSC full hydraulic steering. We will truss the axle and weld the front for CHEAP solution for the time being. The plan is to eventually run an ox locker, and re-gear to 5.38. The Atlas four speed is in, and all the shifters are installed. The new aluminum Radiator has been installed for mock up, and will be changed to a triple pass radiator before final installation.

You need the blinker/parking light adapter. This adapter allows you to turn your parking light or blinker into a dual purpose light with just a few electrical connections! I have seen these adapters being used in many applications including but not limited to classic cars, off-road vehicles/buggies, daily drivers. They use only existing connections for a no Hassle installation. These are designed to run one light or 2 amps and are sold in pairs. All adapters are water proof and mill spec – View Product Documentation

This is it! The O2 sensor simulator that so many of you have asked for has been finished. We have now developed a simulator that is compatible with all vehicles including OBD 1 and OBD2 vehicles. To ensure compatibility with newer vehicles, the new simulator adds the extra feature of simulating the presence of the heater inside the oxygen sensor along with the simulation of the sensor itself. Using this simulator, the check engine light will not trip do to a custom exhaust, or a missing catalytic converter.

The simulator uses a precision voltage reference to simulate the sensor’s output signal. This method allows the simulator to deliver the correct signals regardless of the varying input voltage from the battery and harsh temperature changes outside. In addition to the sensor signal, the simulator recreates the unique startup and continuous operation of the heater. This operation is called the positive temperature coefficient of the heater, a feature that

other simulators lack. For non-engineers, this means that as the heater warms up, the resistance of the heater gets larger, therefore consuming less current. This is a feature that cannot be accomplished using a simple resistive heater

simulator.

The O2 simulator has many additional features that ensure a long life and trouble free operation. The simulator is compatible with all analog and pwm signals, it has a separate small signal grou

nd for the sensor return (a feature found in the factory sensor), and is made with ultra small surface mount components to reduce its size. Since the simulator is simulating a heater it has to heat up. The case is made of an aluminum heat sink enclosure to keep the components cool, allowing a high temperature range and ensuring a longer lifetime. Convenient mounting tabs are built into the case allowing mounting near the exhaust. Made with over 40 transistors and 30 resistors the MAF O2 sensor simulator is not a simple resistor mod.

The MAF sensor sim

ulator is designed for continued off-road use. The simulator is built from rugged military spec components which ensure increased reliability and durability. We have designed the simulator to withstand continued use in demanding environments. An all aluminum construction resists corrosion and heat as well as providing a durable outer shell. Only the highest quality components were used allowing the simulator to be mounted next to the exhaust and not melt. The simulator is 100% waterproof and has a temperature

range of -50°C to 100° (-58°F to 212°F).

The simulator is designed to work only for the downstream oxygen sensor. Installation on the upstream sensor will result in poor engine performance. FULL instructions are included and additional help is available by e-mailing MAF. The simulator is for OFFROAD USE ONLY. Use on road and to pass emissions testing is illegal.

MAF is dedicated to providing quality products and stands behind them. This is 100% made in the USA using the best components. Every simulator is tested for function and quality. If for some reason you are not satisfied with the downstream oxygen sensor simulator it can be returned for a full refund minus shipping within 30 days of purchase. Thank you for considering the MAF Downstream oxygen sensor simulator.

The simulator comes with self tapping screws, wire splices, and directions. It measures 2.1″ x 1.6″ x 1″ – View Product Documentation

The MAF sensor simulator was designed for continued off-road use. The simulator is built from rugged mil spec components which ensure a long lifetime and increased reliability. Its small design allows it to be placed in tight areas away from hot or moving parts. Its metal construction and epoxy coating provide increased durability and a tight waterproof seal. Finally, the simulator was designed for use with the wide temperature range found in automotive applications. The simulator is designed to operate in temperatures as low as -55° C (-67° F) and as high as 150° C (302° F).

The Downstream Oxygen Sensor Simulator is designed to work with almost all vehicles. It is compatible with all two wire and three wire systems as well as most four wire systems. The simulator is designed to work only for the downstream oxygen sensor. Installation on the upstream sensor will result in poor engine performance. Full instructions come with the device.

The Jeep AW4 transmission override is the newest in Montana Auto and Fabrication’s line of electrical modifications for vehicles. Anyone who has ever taken a Cherokee off road knows that the automatic transmission can shift between first and second at inappropriate times. The MAF transmission override frees up the computer’s control of first and second gear in the AW4 automatic transmission found in Jeep Cherokees from 1988 to 2001 as well as the 1993 Grand Cherokee. The engineers at Aisin Warner decided that Jeep owners did not need manual control over the first two gears in their transmission. They designed the transmission to have a “1-2″ slot in the shifter to control both first and second gear with the computer. Therefore, the driver does not have any control over when the transmission shifts to second or first. For example, the transmission does not allow engine braking in first gear because the computer refuses to shift into first. Additionally, the computer shifts into second after about 4500 rpm, a detrimental effect in sand and snow. A user mod has been out for quite some time to free up these gears. However, with the integration of the OBD2 system in 1997, the check engine light will trip when this mod is used. The MAF transmission override is designed to be compatible with OBD2 systems and not trip the light. This override will work with 97 and newer cherokees.

The override consists of a high quality rotary switch with three positions, D, 2, and 1. In the “D” position, the override has no effect and the transmission shifts normally. In the “2″ position the transmission is forced into second gear. In this position the Jeep will provide engine braking in second as well as start in second if needed. Finally, in the “1″ position, the transmission is forced into first gear. In this setting the transmission will provide engine braking in first. Each position has a lighted indicator for visibility in the dark. The rotary switch also provides a solid feel between positions for quick shifts without looking at the dial. The kit also includes a high quality stainless steel mounting plate, all the necessary hardware and full instructions – View Product Documentation
